Dish Network Fails Me

For some reason Dish Network in the Salt Lake City area does not provide ABC HD. I have written them various emails asking them why and if there were any plans to add it to the channel lineup. All I got were different forms of "I dunna know." So, in my last letter, I told them that I planned to switch to DirecTV if I didn't get a good answer. The same lame response came back. So now I am getting DirecTV installed next Friday. Finally, Lost and the best college football games in HD! I am even eating the early cancellation fee from Dish Network because I want those programs in HD. I will keep you posted on which satellite service I consider to be better. I'll rate them on picture, interface, DVR, HD selection, and equipment reliability. DirecTV currently has the better monthly price for the basic channel and HD package. Both of them charge $199.00 for the HD/DVR receiver. Hopefully DirecTV will turn out to be better on the other categories...but even if it doesn't, at least I'll be watching Lost and college football in sparkling HD.

Florida vs. Tennessee

It has been suggested by a somewhat biased accountant partner of my father that Florida at Tennessee has been the best college football game of the year. I'm going to have to agree with him on that one. It had all the drama and suspense that a classic college football game should have along with all the hatred that goes along with a big rivalry. My personal favorite parts of that game were when Urban Meyer would replace Chris Leak with Tim Tebow to run the option or a qb sneak for the first down. Everyone in the whole freakin' stadium knew that the kid wasn't going to throw but they still couldn't stop him from picking up first downs on the run. Of course, my friend thinks that Urban Meyer is just bluffing the whole college football world before he has Tebow throw a 60-yard touchdown pass against LSU or Auburn. Now that could definitely work and it will probably have to because Florida's upcoming two week stretch against LSU and Auburn will be what defines their season. Win both of those games and they will probably be in the National Championship game. So Mr. Tschopp, start praying that the ball bounces UF's way during those two weeks and you could be celebrating come January. And let's hope that happens because watching Florida dominate Ohio State or USC would be so gratifying for every football fan in the south. Down with the Pac-10 and Big 10!
